Types of Abortion

Before any abortion can be done, you must confirm that you are pregnant and determine how long you have been pregnant. At Safe Harbor Pregnancy Medical Center you will receive a free pregnancy test and abortion information. If you are medically eligible, a free ultrasound will date and determine the viability (health) of your pregnancy. From there our medical staff can talk to you and answer all your questions about the different abortion options shown below.

Morning After Pill

The morning after pill (also known as Plan B, Plan B One Step or Ella) is not the same as RU486 (the abortion pill). The morning after pill is emergency contraception that is taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. It works by delaying ovulation, interfering with fertilization and/or preventing implantation. If you have any questions about the morning after pill, contact Safe Harbor Pregnancy Medical Center.

Medical Abortion - (Abortion Pill)

Medical or non-surgical abortion uses RU486 and other types of chemicals to terminate an early pregnancy. According to new FDA regulations this method of abortion is approved for use in women who are within 30-70 days of their last menstrual period. Medical abortion can involve up to 3 office visits and may require a surgical procedure if the medical abortion fails or is incomplete.

Abortion Pill Reversal

If you have taken the first dose of the abortion pill, Mifepristone (Mifeprex or RU-486) and regret your decision, it may not be too late to reverse the effects of the medication abortion and save your pregnancy. For information, call to speak with one of our nurses.  (During non-business hours, phone the Abortion Pill Reversal Hotline available 24/7:  877.558.0333 or visit the Abortion Pill Rescue Network website:  https://abortionpillreversal.com.)

Surgical Abortion

As with a medical abortion, a surgical abortion will end your pregnancy. As the name implies, it is a surgical procedure which removes the baby from the uterus with special instruments. There are different types of surgical abortion procedures—and different methods (depending on how far along you are)—that require different types of clinical facilities. To learn more about surgical abortion procedures, make an appointment for a free pregnancy test and consultation at Safe Harbor.
